Grooveshark has enjoyed a few good years. Its free music streaming service, available worldwide, is enjoyed by millions of people. But the reason why the service is free, with no limits, and available everywhere in the world is because it doesn't have any sort of licensing deal with any of the major record labels, save for one with EMI which it signed after the label sued it.Especially after it reached a deal with EMI, a subsequent lawsuit filed by Universal looked like nothing to worry about.
But that has changed recently, after Universal filed a new suit arguing that not only are Grooveshark employees and leadership aware of copyright infringement on the site, they've
uploaded many songs themselves.
Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group have now
joined Universal Music Group in that lawsuit. It may still take a few years before the suit runs its course, but Grooveshark's owners and its users should be worried.
