Great for use with powered dock speakers

Not having the same connector as all the other iPods is probably forcing the iPod Suffle (2G) to stay on the porch and not run with the big docks of the market. And I'm talking about all the docks that come with a no "i" prefix. OK, but Griffin Technology is going to take the iPod Suffle (2G) under its protective marketing wing from now on (and, maybe, Apple will now get to sell those expensive music boxes).

They're about to ship a new accessory that makes Apple's second-generation iPod Shuffle (the world's smallest digital music player, eh?) work with any device that comes with a Universal Dock. The Dock Adapter is shaped just like the dock connector on the bottom of every full-size iPod.

The new Dock Adapter allows iPod shuffle owners to use speaker systems as well as other devices that were previously accessible only to full size docking iPods, serving as a low profile that fits in most travel accessory cases. The adapter comes with a slider switch that toggles between charge/synchronize and audio play modes, enabling the docked Shuffle to transfer data and synchronize with iTunes while charging the battery. In play mode the iPod shuffle outputs its audio to any connected speaker system.

Griffin Dock Adapter for iPod Shuffle is not yet shipping but you can pre-order it from the Griffintechnology.com. The device will sell for a cent short of 20$. There's no word of when it will be shipped to retailers.
