The many different improvements and modifications seen in Grid Autosport are the consequence of feedback gathered by Codemasters after last year's Grid 2, as the studio noticed the game wasn't what some fans had hoped for.

Grid 1 appeared quite a few years ago and impressed through some great gameplay that struck a good balance between arcade and simulator racing, while featuring plenty of different disciplines, cars, and novel mechanics, like the rewind one.

With Grid 2, Codemasters wanted to improve on many different areas but the studio was also forced to remove some key aspects, like cockpit view, in order to make sure the other mechanics worked within the game.

Alongside the confirmation of Grid Autosport, the studio has admitted on its blog that it didn't exactly deliver the game some people had hoped for.

"On release of Grid 2, I think it’s fair to say that through listening to you guys and a after a substantial amount of reflection, we hadn’t quite achieved everything we set out to do," the studio's Community Manager, Ben Walke, said.

"We’re proud of the game, really delighted with some of the great reviews for it, but we’re not above admitting that we made a few decisions that perhaps we shouldn’t have, and perhaps moved some of the aspects of the game too far away from our core fanbase."

In order to address the feedback, Codemasters tried to implement plenty of changes via updates and free DLC like the Demolition Derby one, but the core aspects of the game couldn't be modified via a simple patch.

As such, it began gathering all the different feedback for Grid 2 from around the web and started compiling a list of potential features for a new experience, in the form of Grid Autosport.

"If Grid 2 raced off into a more narrative-led world of racing with more accessible controls, it’s clear that for many of you, that wasn’t what you wanted or expected from Grid 2," Walke added.

"So with Grid Autosport we had the opportunity to make a much more focused motorsport game, a desire that many of you have expressed directly to us, and a game that in spirit goes back to some of our earlier titles in terms of content and handling."

Grid Autosport was revealed yesterday and is set to debut on June 27 worldwide for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms. You can bet that much more details about the racing game will appear until then.
