Codemasters has officially confirmed that Grid Autosport is the next game in its prestigious racing series and that it will debut on June 27 with a wide array of improvements over last year's Grid 2, not to mention plenty of content, from event types, to cars, and more.

Grid 2 was eagerly awaited by millions of different racing fans last year, after the classic original, but it didn't exactly live up to the expectations of many hardcore gamers, although developer Codemasters tried to make it up to them via different updates and free DLC packs, like the one that brought a Demolition Derby mode.

Now, the studio is back with Grid Autosport, a more hardcore racing experience that promises better handling, various disciplines, plenty of cars, not to mention allowing players to make different choices in regards to their single-player campaigns or multiplayer encounters.

Among the general improvements over Grid 2, Codemasters has highlighted a few on the official blog, starting with the handling system, which ventures more towards the simulator side, than the more arcade predecessor.

According to the studio, cars will feel drastically different depending on their types, ranging from WTCC Touring cars to Formula 3 single-seater racing machines.

Besides the handling, the game will feature five different event types, including WTCC Touring competitions, Formula 3, Endurance, or Street races that take place on city circuits. Each provides various experiences and requires a lot of practice to succeed in.

Each discipline also has a number of dedicated series focusing on various car types, from Touring cars, to Single-Seaters, Muscle Cars, Supercars, Hypercars, and more.

There will be 22 different locations in Grid Autosport, with a total number of circuits of over 100.

In the single-player campaign, players become a professional racing driver but they'll be able to choose in which disciplines they want to participate, so they aren't forced to do anything they don't want to. They can also jump directly into a race or do a practice session, a qualifying round to get a better start position, and then actually race.

Autosport also brings back the possibility of racing with a teammate, who can be ordered with the press of a button to defend his position or start attacking cars ahead.

Cars can be tuned before a race, so players can tweak aspects like brake bias, differential, downforce, gears, ride height, and suspension for both the front and the back.

Last but not least, the RaceNet online system is back, as players can create racing clubs with their own colors and design and go up against other groups in different challenges and events.

Grid Autosport launches on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on June 27. Until then, check out the video below.
