The new game from Codemasters will deliver a true simulation, the studio says

Codemasters is confident that its upcoming Grid 2 racing game will be able to attract fans of the genre largely because it, just like its predecessor, is designed to deliver a simulator experience that captures the “drama” of racing competitions.

Grid 1 (or Race Driver: Grid, as it was known in certain territories) delivered an intense experience way back in 2008 when it first came out, by encompassing various racing events and combining them with gameplay mechanics like realistic damage and a flashback system.

With the recently announced Grid 2, Codemasters is trying to deliver an improved experience, thanks to the skills it has earned by working on many other racing games after Grid 1, including Dirt 3 or Dirt Showdown.

"When we started talking about what we wanted to do it was pretty clear that we needed to spend more time developing our technology. When the first game came out we were actually pretty inexperienced in terms of Xbox 360 and PS3 hardware," Grid 2 Executive Producer Clive Moody told Game Master, via CVG.

What’s more, Grid 2 will once again succeed in delivering an experience focused on the action found on the track and the drama of all racing events.

"There's been a huge number of racing titles that have been and gone since Grid, but I don't think any of them have really captured that key point of racing games: the action on the track and all of the drama around it. We're desperate to bring that back now but at a whole new level in terms of fidelity and levels of immersion."

We have already heard the first details about Grid 2 earlier this week and have admired both a video and some screenshots with the racing experience.

Expect to hear more about the new game from Codemasters as we get closer to its release for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 sometime in 2013.
