A man has uncovered a hand grenade in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, prompting the police to lock down a section of the park for a few hours.

Larry Feurzeig, who posted the photo of the grenade on the KTVU Channel 2 Facebook page, was using a metal detector in the park when he came across the live grenade and called authorities.

According to San Francisco Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Andraychak, he found the device at 1:10 p.m. and law enforcement officials responded quickly, clearing the threat by 3:35 p.m.

Mercury News reports that the bomb squad was called in at the Mallard Lake location and, as you can observe in the video below, the grenade was detonated on the spot without anyone being injured.
