The US and the United Kingdom have been obvious targets of the journalists reporting on the Snowden files, mostly because the two are main actors in this spying game. But another spotlight is about to be turned on and it will be directed at Canada.

Canada’s spying activities have seldom been mentioned throughout the past months, aside from the scandal regarding one of Brazil’s Ministries.

“The documents are quite complex. There are a lot of them. There is enormous amounts of reporting to do in Canada, one of the most active surveillance agencies in the world, because of how closely they work with the NSA,” Glenn Greenwald told CBC Radio.

“There are many, many, many more significant documents about Canadian surveillance and partnership with the NSA that will be reported and, I think, will be quite enlightening for the people of Canada,” Greenwald continued.

The journalist also dismissed concerns issued by numerous politicians that slammed the media for reporting on the NSA files and said that it was not the publishing of the leaks that put people in danger, but rather the governments that could exercise great power in the dark.

Furthermore, he stated that terrorists had long known of the spying methods of the US and UK and there was nothing new for them to find out. “What we’ve told people that they didn’t already know, ordinary citizens all around the world, is that the spying system is directed not at the terrorists but at them,” the journalist says.

It’s been over five months since Glenn Greenwald started publishing information about the NSA spying practices, as well as the agency’s close connections to Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand and the fact that the agencies share information within the “Five Eyes” network about their targets and achievements.
