It’s official. Both Greenpois0n by Chronic Dev, and Limera1n by Geohot are now available as downloads for those running Mac OS X. Previously, the tools were available for Windows only, but now even Linux users can download Greenpois0n, while Limera1n remains available for Mac and Windows only.

Using the tools in question, those who wish to have Cydia installed on their device in order to download unapproved third-party software can jailbreak iOS 4.1 in a few easy steps.

As usual, Softpedia does not encourage such practices, since they pose security risks and may void the warranty provided with the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad purchase. Neither does Apple.

As these tools were undergoing development for the aforementioned supported platforms, Apple confirmed the upcoming availability of yet another iOS software update.

The release is sure to thwart jailbreakers, forcing them to employ the tools again, as their makers set out to find new holes to take advantage of.

While the Chronic Dev Team and Geohot have done their bit for now, the infamous iPhone Dev Team is gearing up to release a new PwnageTool that supports Apple’s newest iOS version on multiple devices.

PwnageTool is, by far, the most reliable jailbreak application of its kind. Unfortunately, the tool is solely available for Mac users.

For those who recently used Limera1n or Greenpois0n to jailbreak their iOS device, and want to make sure that iTunes doesn’t automatically update their firmware the next Apple releases one, a quick fix is available to block the updating of the iPhone/iPod/iPad by accident, CultOfMac reveals. A script is offered to be used with Terminal.app.

Softpedia doesn't encourage jailbreaking / unlocking the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV, or any other device.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
