The organization accuses New Zealand of being “nicer to elves than sharks”

Greenpeace is dead set on safeguarding the world's remaining biodiversity, and one way to achieve this is protesting against shark finning.

This August 7, the organization published a blog post accusing New Zealand of being “nicer to elves than sharks.”

“New Zealand might be a good place for hobbits, elves and dwarfs and make a spectacular, but it's not much fun if you're a shark.

“This small country at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean is one of the strongholds of shark fishing and finning. Yes, I did say shark finning - that senseless, wasteful fishing method that most enlightened countries have abandoned... But not New Zealand,” the blog post reads.

Presently, New Zealand is a major exporter of shark fins, some of which are shipped to Hong Kong. Others are sent to the US.

Needless to say, Greenpeace hopes that, preferably sooner rather than later, the country will agree to institute a ban on said practice and get behind efforts to keep sharks from going extinct.
