Greenpeace activists have staged a protest at Apple’s Ireland headquarters in Cork, where they stuck signs with letters spelling out "clean our cloud," and then distributed leaflets to staff.

“When people around the world share their music or photos on the cloud, they want to know that the cloud is powered by clean, safe energy,” said Kumi Naidoo, Greenpeace International executive director.

The activists came down from the rooftops voluntarily as the police arrived on the scene.

Greenpeace is pushing Apple into using renewable energy, instead of coal, to power the data centers that keep its iCloud running. However, Apple has issued a statement refuting Greenpeace’s claims, saying that the renewable energy used by its North Carolina data center is 50% more than what the environmentalists projected.
