The Chronic-Dev Team have released GreenPois0n ‘Syringe’, a piece of their GreenPois0n jailbreak utility, as freely-usable source code under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation.

According to a post at github.com authored Chronic-Dev, those interested in iOS hacking can now benefit from parts of the GreenPois0n jailbreak that have been made open source under the GNU Public License.

Of particular interest is ‘Syringe’, which Chronic-Dev members describe as “the ‘Injector’ module from GreenPois0n."

"It's used for sending exploits to the device and booting the device out of recovery mode, and into a jailbroken state, whether to a ramdisk or to the main filesystem,” the description reads.

And here’s Chronic’s official word on the matter:

Currently, there are multiple jailbreak utilities that get the job done on both the iPhone and iPod touch, as well as on the iPad and even the second-generation Apple TV under iOS 3.2.2 (for iPad) and iOS 4.1 (for the rest of the pack).

A new version of iOS is being prepared for shipping - iOS 4.2. The update should patch some jailbreaks, but the people who took it upon themselves to provide jailbreak tools for the iOS community are known have a few aces (exploits) up their sleeves.
