With bacon running short, human society might soon have to turn towards rather odd sources of nutrients.

Thanks to the Locust Farm designed by the UNHCR, growing insects for dinner could soon be a pretty easy thing to do.

Although this kit is meant to lend a helping hand to communities presently affected by malnutrition and hunger, there are some who claim that Westerners might sooner or later own one or two.

The Locust Farm has special compartments for females, males and newborns. As well as this, the kit features a “nursery”, where she-locusts can lay their eggs.

Moreover, a water tank and a pipette make sure the insects benefit from all the environmental conditions they need in order to grow big enough to be eaten.

The idea is likely to strike most people as odd, yet the fact remains that locusts and other insects of their kind are a noteworthy source of nutrients.
