Malaysia-based mobile broadband and networking-solution provider Green Packet Berhad announced on Thursday that it had managed to ink three different deals with WiMAX operators in Eurasia. According to Green Packet, these three companies are Maximali of Georgia, iCON Communications of Armenia and Intellecom from Ukraine.

Although the financial terms of the deals were not revealed, it is known what each operator has bought. iCON Communications opted for the purchase of both indoor modems (DV350) and USB modems (UM350), Intellecom went for the indoor modems (DV230), while the last company, Maximali, bought the outdoor modems (OS230) from Green Packet.

“According to the Broadband Forum Q2 report, broadband growth of Eastern Europe was reported at 6% quarterly and 29% yearly, representing a two-fold growth compared to the world and Greenpacket foresees tremendous opportunity for the growth of WiMAX networks in the region,” Kelvin Lee, senior general manager of Green Packet Berhad, said.

Discussing about the Armenian deal, iCON’s Chief Commercial Officer, Raffi Kassarjian, added, “Ease of installation is essential to us as it helps to increase user adoption for broadband services. We see that Greenpacket’s plug and play modems allow our subscribers to get connected instantly with less end-user education.” Based on the fact that DV comes with built-in VoIP capabilities, it proves a great choice for iCON, which plans on introducing VoIP in a second phase.

Teimuraz Gogoberidze, CEO of Maximali, declared that the main reason for closing a deal with Green Packet was the superior quality of the OS230 outdoor modem. “Winter is coming, so we needed modems that could withstand sub-zero conditions,” he said. Gogoberidze also added that the company needed outdoor modems that were robust and that could withstand extreme weather conditions, something that Greenpacket’s modems already featured.

Green Packet has a full range of WiMAX CPE, including USB modems, as well as indoor and outdoor ones. The company's models have been developed so as to work on 2.3 GHz, 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz frequencies.
