It seems that the movie tie-in genre of videogames is alive and well, as various reports are saying that
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has decided that it will create and publish a videogame based on the Green Lantern property, to be released to fans alongside the movie.
The two products are set to be outed sometime in 2011 and development duties on the game will be handled by Double Helix. It seems that the Green Lantern videogame will be published on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.
At the moment, Double Helix is working on two known projects. It is close to releasing another movie tie-in, G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, on August 4, for the Xbox 360, PS3, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable and in the middle of development on Front Missions Evolved, a mecha game that is set to be published by Square Enix and slated for sometime next year.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has not commented on the rumors related to the Green Lantern videogame and it is unlikely to talk about it as long as it does not have something substantial, like an in-game trailer, to show off.
Green Lantern is one of the most interesting characters in the DC Comics universe and Warner Bros. is creating a movie around them in order to capitalize on the success of recent movies based on comic books, like the
Batman series, Wolverine and Iron Man. It seems that the man who will play the Green Lantern is Ryan Reynolds, who also portrayed Deadpool earlier in the year. Players can only hope that Double Helix manages to create a videogaming experience, with or without Mister Reynolds voice, that is an improvement on what the Wolverine game delivered.
