It connects to PCs via USB and is pretty much the best of its kind

The newest product from Green House is baffling not just because of the many different memory card formats it supports, but because there actually are that many memory cards to begin with.

Then again, 51 is a really large number in any situation. It makes us wonder if there was any intent to allude to Area 51.

The folks there must have their hands in many cookie jars after all, just like the new memory card reader can interface with a whole slew of different cards.

That includes all the normal formats, like SD, SDHC, SDXC, miniSD, microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC, and the ones not so often encountered, like Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Pro-Duo, Memory Stick micro and Compact Flash cards.

If nothing else, the newcomer, called GH-CRM1A-BK by its maker Green House, lives up to the “all-in-one” moniker. Well, almost, but more on that later.

Not everything is rosy though, because Green House did not actually go all the way when it designed the thing.

Which is to say, it didn't give it the best possible connectivity technology for interfacing with a PC, or other consumer electronics.

Instead, it only gave it USB 2.0. Not even USB 3.0 was included (5 Gbps versus 480 Mbps), and neither was Thunderbolt or whatever else.

Had those two been included, the Green House GH-CRM1A-BK would truly have been an all-in-one memory card reader. It wouldn't have even raised the price that much, although we suppose the tag of 980 yen / $10 / €7.4 is pretty convenient.

That said, the size of the product is 69.2 x 42.2 x 13.6 mm, or 2.72 x 1.66 x 0.53 inches. Not that small, but not too large either. The different card compartments are fairly tightly stacked. Maybe Green House will upgrade the USB later on, in 2014 at some point.
