Hot on the heels of the official announcement related to the development of Rock Band 3, Harmonix, the developer, together with MTV Games, Reprise / Warner Bros. Records and the band itself have revealed that Green Day: Rock Band is set to be released to gamers on June 8. The game should come to the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the Nintendo Wii.

The title is similar as an experience to last fall's The Beatles Rock Band, aiming to allow players to really get into the heads of the Green Day band members. Likenesses of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool will be used in the game and as the videogame progresses, players will be able to get access to more than 100 images featuring the band in their most important moments while also unlocking about 40 minutes of video content including never before seen interviews, song performances and post show relaxation.

There are 47 songs featured in Green Day: Rock Band. They include well known hits like: “Brain Stew,” “Jaded,” “Hitchin’ a Ride,” “American Idiot,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends” and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” All the tracks can also be exported to the other Rock Band games and the six songs Green Day has already contributed to the franchise can be imported into the fresh release and played with new harmonies and more exclusive video content.

Ever since Green Day: Rock Band was announced, some have wondered why Harmonix and MTV Games have chosen the band to lead their standalone release schedule, after the huge hit of bringing a Beatles music game to players. Rock Band has managed to sell more than 50 million records and took home Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music, Best Rock Album and Record of the Year.
