Nowadays, almost every cell phone owner can easily monitor and control his own ecological footprint, while using an innovative app. Offset4Poor is a free carbon offset calculator that allows you to measure carbon emissions generated during daily activities, like driving, flying, or simply consuming energy at home.

Moreover, it allows you to contribute to environmentally friendly strategies and campaigns. For example, you could support a tree planting campaign developed in a poor country.

“We hope to shift the current carbon offset market, which primarily benefits wealthy individuals/industrialists, towards the poor and the unemployed in both developing and developed countries. The poor are currently paying the highest price for the negative impacts of global warming/climate change,” the representatives involved in this green project reveal.

It seems that this initiative might really show some impressive results, since the team behind Offset4Poor say that an average American who uses this app for an entire year could help around four financially challenged families from developing countries, offering their members “dignified employment opportunities.”

The app is compatible with iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Nokia.

Offset4Poor is available for download here.
