It is generally accepted that the expansion of alternative sources of energy will  influence the development of national economies worldwide. This time, Greece tries to apply the benefits of the solar industry, in order to pay its debt and overcome the national crisis it is presently experiencing.

Even though the country is passing through one of its most devastating crisis, the current situation can't take away the benefits of one of its unlimited resources: sun power.

It seems that officials think that their “Helios” program which relies on solar energy usage will manage to support the Greek government's recovery while helping it pay back $21 billion in debt.

This strategy succeeded in capturing the attention of other countries, which will define themselves as Greece's clients when it comes to sustainable energy coming from the sun.

The plan sounds good on paper, and it reflects a win-win situation at an international level.

But one challenge still remains, as Greece has to develop an effective plan to attract potential investors, in order to support a giant network of solar panels which will have to generate up to 10 gigawatts of power by 2050.

Sun power exploitation isn't new for the Greek nation, since many households are nowadays experiencing the advantages of their owners initiative to install solar panels on their rooftops.

While applied on a national scale, such an investment would imply the creation of thousands of jobs for people who face unemployment at this point in time.

Officials think that Greek's significant potential in this field of activity has been neglected so far due to corruption, inefficient measures applied to the present infrastructure and the oil and coal-dependency, which made more victims on an international level.

Since Greece's serious situations demands urgent solutions, authorities say that they are confident that “Helios” project will manage to bring to the national budget $110 billion in the next 25 years.

The country would still have to face the significant investments which have to be support this growing industry, but, in the end, experts affirm that the advantages will be noticeable financially, economically and socially speaking.
