Tourists gather up hoping they might get to see the sharks

Although the world's great white population has significantly declined, primarily as a result of water pollution and of poaching, it now seems that two representatives of this species have made it all the way to Cape Cod.

As marine biologists explain, the sharks were most likely drawn here by seals, which are amongst their favorites when it comes to food.

Both tourists and researchers who decided to come here to have a look at the great whites were asked to be very careful when entering the water, and remain close to shore if possible.

In spite of most people's seeing great whites as blood-driven predators, conservationists and environmentalists argue that this is far from being true and that the species should be protected as a vital part of our marine ecosystems.
