PS3 owners need to be motivated in order to buy the motion control system

Sony has admitted that the PlayStation Move motion control system for its PlayStation 3 requires lots of great games if it’s to become popular and hopes that future titles will be able to make the peripheral a key accessory for the home console.

The PlayStation Move was released quite some time ago, with Sony hyping it up as a paradigm shift in terms of controlling video games and a much more precise system than the used by Microsoft with its Kinect or by Nintendo with the Wii.

Sadly, while there were some interesting games released for the Move on the PlayStation 3, owners ultimately ended up abandoning it. Even so, as we heard this week, over 10.5 million Move units were sold worldwide.

Sony Computer Entertainment UK Manager Fergal Gara believes this number could’ve been much higher if more games were released for the peripheral, admitting that his company could have supported the Move a bit better.

"What I'm thinking is that it's better suited towards the casual market, certainly, but we also are pretty clear that we could have done a better job on the titles we've had and we've brought to market for the PlayStation Move," Gara told OPM UK.

Things will change soon, as quite a few impressive games are going to appear in the following months, including Sorcery, which was recently dated for a May launch.

"As you've said, great tech, probably not so great applications so far," Gara continued. "So there's a job for us to do on the strength of games, and having seen what's forthcoming gives me great hope that we can do a better job with Move as we look forward. So we're certainly not forgetting about it."

After Sorcery, not a lot of other big Move games are coming, although Irrational’s extremely impressive BioShock Infinite will have limited support for the motion control system when it’s released in October this year.
