Wildlife researchers worldwide were puzzled when hearing the news that a gray whale had shown up in the Southern Hemisphere.

As they explain, this sighting need be regarded as the most amazing in the recorded history of whales, seeing how marine mammals belonging to this species have never before been documented to swim in these waters.

Opposing Views informs us that the whale was seen swimming fairly close to the Namibian coast.

Specialists suspect that the whale managed to reach these waters because the Northwest Passage is now clear of ice, all thanks to climate change and global warming.

“It is tantalizing because it's a mystery. We don't know how this whale got so far from where gray whales are supposed to be,” researcher Alisa Schulman-Jangier of the American Cetacean Society had to admit.
