Windows XP is going to be discontinued in just a couple of months, so at some level, it’s not surprising that many users are actually looking for a new operating system for their computers.

A bunch of new statistics provided by market researcher StatCounter for the United Kingdom for the last 12 months reveal that Windows XP has dramatically lost ground in the country, declining to almost the same share as Windows Vista.

While Windows 7 still leads the market with 47.94 percent, Mac OS X comes second with 11.21 percent, followed by our beloved Windows XP with 11.04 percent.

Windows Vista is next with 8.82 percent, while Windows 8, Microsoft’s biggest bet in the OS market, has only 7.01 percent.

Of course, the dramatic decline of Windows XP is expected to continue in the coming months, as Microsoft will stop releasing patches and security updates in April.
