The first DVD edition of Granular Linux was released today as announced by Anurag Bhandari, the lead developer of the project. It will have the name Granular FunWorks 2007 and it is a DVD extension to Granular Linux v0.90.

The new release is much more stable, bug-free, feature rich and improved than the last one. Also, it is an One Stop Distribution, which means you can find almost all the applications you would ever need.

The user will notice that this version has more useful applications than the previous release. Also you can choose from four desktop environments: KDE, XFCE, Enlightment (E17), and Looking Glass (LG3D). The artwork suffered only minor changes, so don't expect too many differences between this release and the older one. Also, the installer was a little bit modified. If you have a favorite major application, you will certainly find the most recent version of it included in Granular FunWorks 2007.

If you are in the mood to play something, the developers prepared a good amount of quality 2D and 3D games for you. For your office work, or if you are a programmer, you can choose from the carefully selected set of development and office applications that has been added among many other things.

The web browsers from this distribution have improved support for Java, Flash and media streaming. You will have out-of-the box support for multimedia. The development team focused more on the standard user account, so you can have better security and privacy.

Granular is very user-friendly, easy to use and so it is a very good option for the Linux newbies, allowing them to choose from various desktop environments, this way letting the user pick his/her favorite one. A very interesting feature is "Granular StartPoint" that will allow you to check out the various available applications in the distribution with their full descriptions. This way, you will understand the software and its usage better.

You can download Granular FunWorks 2007 right now from Softpedia.
