After months of hard work, Anurag Bhandari proudly announced today the immediate availability of Granular Linux 1.0, a PCLinuxOS-based Live CD Linux distribution. Besides the new features (see below for details) and the numerous bug fixes, the new release comes with the following updated packages: Linux kernel 2.6.26.8, KDE 3.5.10, Enlightenment 0.16.999, Mozilla Firefox 3.0.4, KOffice 1.6.3, Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.14, Compiz Fusion 0.7.6, The GIMP 2.6.3, Wine 1.0.1 and many more.

"After a long wait, Granular 1.0 is finally out. And we are pretty much excited about this release because this is the first stable Granular release since about a year, and because it's version 1, of course. This final release of Granular 1.0 brings with it solid stability, out-of-the-box usefulness, great multimedia experience, support for running Windows software, and all of this & much more in the size of a CD (livecd). [...] Wishing you a very happy Granularing!" - said Anurag Bhandari in the official release announcement.

Without any further introduction, let's take a closer look at the changes since the release candidate of Granular Linux:

· Brasero was replaced by the popular K3b, as the default CD/DVD burning application; · Greatly improved the Granular Control Center; · Added ATI and Nvidia video drivers; · Added MPlayer and Xine, two great multimedia playback engines; · The old system:/ was replaced with the sysinfo:/ kio slave; · Added support to write on NTFS (Windows) partitions; · Added Wine; · Added a FAQs section to Granular StartPoint.

Among the bugs that were fixed, we can notice:

· The "Amarok Splash" tool was fixed; · The "Kernel panic" errors when installing Granular were fixed; · Made Metabar to be always visible in the file manager window; · Fixed minor issue in Granular StartPoint.
