Gray gamers want tech toys for Christmas

If you thought that tech toys like the Nintendo DS were only for pre-teens and some adults that forgot to grow up, you are wrong. Things are much more complicated than that. If you ever surprised your grandma playing Pokemon on your Nintendo DS and thought that she was only dusting it, think again,

A study ordered by Nintendo and performed by Harris Interactive reveals that over 52 percent of "gray gamers" and 68 percent of "baby boomers" want to receive a portable video games system for Christmas. Forget buying your grandmas a sweater or silk flowers, now you can get them a Nintendo DS or a PSP.

According to George Harrison, senior vp for Nintendo of America, the results of this study confirm that as gamers grow older and become part of the "gray gamer" category, they still want cool tech toys. And if we are to take into consideration another study performed by the Entertainment Software Association in 2006 which shows that 25 percent of all gamers are 50 or older, this "gray gamer" category is not at all small.

They are not few but what do they play? Do they play Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Zelda or Pokemon? I'd like to see a 60 year-old grandpa playing World of Warcraft. Apparently, grandpas like to play games like Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day. This game helps players keep their minds sharp while they have fun with number, word and memory puzzles.
