Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar see massive sales for their big franchises

Take-Two Interactive, the publishing partner of Rockstar Games, the studio behind the massively successful Grand Theft Auto series, has now released brand new sales data for its key franchises, including GTA, which still sees impressive growth for the latest title in the series, Grand Theft Auto IV.

Without a doubt one of the most talked about franchises in gaming is Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto, especially since the next installment, GTA V, is among the most eagerly awaited ones in the industry, alongside the likes of Diablo III, Star Wars: The Old Republic or the infamous Half Life 2: Episode Three.

As further proof that the GTA series is among the most profitable franchises out there, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed at the recent ThinkEquity Growth conference, via Gamasutra, new sales figures for it, as well as for other franchises published by Rockstar or 2K Games.

The biggest news was that Grand Theft Auto IV has now surpassed the previous title in the franchise, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, reaching 22 million units shipped, as opposed to the 21.5 million of the earlier game.

With these new sales figures, the Grand Theft Auto franchise is now at 114 million units, since its debut in 1997.

Other sales estimates cover franchises like the Midnight Club one, NBA 2K, Red Dead Redemption, Civilization or BioShock, as well as newer ones like Borderlands. Check out the full list of series and figures below.
