Rockstar Games will celebrate this Saturday, October 22, the 10-year anniversary of one of its most successful titles, Grand Theft Auto III, and has released a touching video tribute to the open world title before its upcoming release on mobile platforms.

Rockstar has always been linked to the Grand Theft Auto franchise, but GTA 3 was the game that made it so, surprising a huge amount of gamers from all around the world 10 years ago, when it was released, at first, for the PlayStation 2, and then to platforms like the PC, Mac, or the original Xbox.

Now, as 10 years have past since that first release, Rockstar wants to offer a tribute for the great title by releasing a special video, in honor of the game that paved the way for other, popular open world games.

"This Saturday marks the ten year anniversary of the release of Grand Theft Auto III," Rockstar said. "We would like to extend our immense gratitude to all GTA fans worldwide for your amazing long-time support, from early on all the way to today. Thank you."

The footage below showcases the main protagonist, Claude, while interacting with some of the most influential people in the game's fictional Liberty City. Also, some of the most impressive stunts and scenes are pictured, which are sure to revive some great memories with gamers, even if the graphics haven't really aged that well.

Still, Rockstar is keen on getting Grand Theft Auto III back in the spotlight, as it has revealed last week that it's going to port it to a variety of mobile devices.

"To commemorate the game’s 10th anniversary, we’re proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto III will be coming to select new generation iOS and Android devices later this fall."

At launch, mobile devices like the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S will be support, not to mention the Droid X2, LG Optimus 2X, HTC Evo 2, Samsung Galaxy S2 or tablets like the Asus Eee Pad, Motorola Xoom or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Rockstar did mention that older devices will be supported after the re-release, but more details will be revealed in the near future.
