In one of the most interesting minigames

Well after the first details on the Nintendo DS version of Grand Theft Auto, subtitled Chinatown Wars, appeared, some thought it might lack the controversy associated with any GTA title.

Well, for those people, Dan Houser, one of the founders of Rockstar, the developer behind the GTA franchise, said, in a recent interview with Edge Magazine, that the DS title would feature a minigame based on drug dealing. Quite interesting stuff, I must say. Well, if they wanted to create controversy and shock the public, they will surely succeed with this move. He motivated this interesting gameplay choice by stating that they always wanted to bring this minigame to their titles.

He further added that his brother, Sam, clearly said that this title needed to be an M-rated one. "It can’t be softened to make it family-friendly – that’s not the game we’re making. We’ve never not done well by sticking to our guns. Nintendo wanted us to make GTA, and we wanted to make a game on their platform. They didn’t want us to make a GTA for kids, and we weren’t interested in making a game we wouldn’t normally make."

And this fits right up with Rockstar's controversial gameplay choices. After the famous Hot Coffee incident, where a hidden piece of programming code enabled players to have sexual intercourse in the game, it shouldn't be such a surprise that drugs eventually made it into the game. But don't think the developers are taking the matter lightly; the players will have 6 types of drugs available, from heroine to weed, which they will have to buy or sell in different parts of the city, depending on the state of the market.

Well one thing's for sure, controversy always sold great when it comes to the GTA franchise and it will definitely be the same with this title.
