Rockstar Games has confirmed that its new open world experience, Grand Theft Auto 5, takes weapon and vehicle customization to new heights thanks to all sorts of complex systems that allow players to modify their guns or cars.

Grand Theft Auto 5 promises to bring lots of brand new mechanics including, for the first time in the series, three main protagonists.

Besides featuring plenty of improvements in many other areas, Grand Theft Auto 5 also brings big changes in terms of weapons and vehicles, as both can be customized in a variety of ways by players.

According to Rockstar's Imran Sarwar, who talked with GI, weapons can be tweaked in many ways and fitted with new attachments.

"Ammu-Nation makes its return in GTA V, but now you can indeed customize your weapons. The player has access to a wide range of modifications, such as extended clips that allow you to fire more ammo between reloads, grips to improve your accuracy, weapon tints to color your guns, flashlights, scopes, and suppressors," he said.

"Attachments such as suppressors allow the player to adapt their approach to some missions and take a stealth option. It¹s all part of broadening the range of tactical options for the player."

While car customization has already been featured in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas many years ago, Rockstar has brought it back and has implemented lots of key changes and complex mechanics.

"Rather than it simply being an additional option for players to experiment with, we wanted to expand it and integrate it more deeply into the game so that it would seamlessly slot in with everything else that the player can do in the world. Some missions ask you to customize vehicles in certain ways, and we have taken vehicle customization in general a lot further than we did in San Andreas," Sarwar said.

Grand Theft Auto V is out on the PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 17 worldwide.
