The encrypted files of Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC have been decrypted by ambitious modders, thanks to an update to the OpenIV tool, and fans are already uncovering some interesting mentions of new content like zombies, horses, and other such things.

GTA 5 launched on the PC platform at the beginning of the week, and developer Rockstar delighted quite a lot of fans with the quality of the game and its overall stability and great performance.

However, for some modders, things weren't so great, as some, like the creator of the ENB Series, reported that the main files of the game were encrypted and impossible to tinker with, so until Rockstar loosens up its restrictions, the game can't be modded.

A special tool can now decrypt GTA 5's files on PC

Even with Rockstar's encryption, it seems that the tenacity of PC users must not be underestimated, as they've managed to decrypt the files and find all sorts of surprise mentions.

More specifically, through the updated OpenIV tool, which was initially made by modders to decrypt Grand Theft Auto 4's files, they've managed to find mentions of zombies and horses in the multiplayer files, in addition to new minigames and menial tasks like brushing your hair, your teeth, or washing your face.

It's unclear whether this content is set to appear in the future for GTA 5 and its GTA Online multiplayer mode.

Bear in mind that, with the tool, you can decrypt the game's files, but so far, fans haven't uncovered a method to re-encrypt the modified content so that the game is able to load it up. As such, until this new hurdle is passed, big mods with new content for GTA 5 on PC are still impossible.

You can decrypt the PC version's files by downloading OpenIV 2.5 from Softpedia. Check out a tutorial video below made by the tool's creator.
