The next installment in the real racing simulator is official

After lots of teasing and a leaked reveal, Sony and Polyphony Digital have confirmed Gran Turismo 6, the next installment in the hugely popular racing simulator series, which will come out for the PlayStation 3 in "holiday 2013."

The Gran Turismo has attracted tens of millions of racing fans from around the world over the years across platforms like the PS1, PS2, PSP, or PS3.

Now, Gran Turismo 6 has just been confirmed for the PlayStation 3 home console by Sony and developer Polyphony Digital.

The game has a brand new game and physics engine as well as 1,200 cars, not to mention 33 locations and 71 track layouts, with more scheduled to appear after the game's launch.

New Game Engine

33 locations, 71 layouts

• 33 Locations and 71 layouts will be provided from day1 (7 more locations and 19 more layouts than GT5) • More new tracks will continue to be provided online

New Course Maker

• Massive scenery spanning several tens of square kilometers • A new course generation algorithm

Gran Turismo 6 is expected to appear at the end of 2013 for the PlayStation 3 platform. As of yet, Sony hasn't mentioned anything about a potential release on the PlayStation 4 next-gen console which is also out in holiday 2013.
