Great news for racing fans, as the lead designer for Gran Turismo 5, Kazunori Yamauchi, revealed that the game has gone gold, meaning development is complete and discs with the game are being manufactured.

Gran Turismo 5 has gone through a lot of ups and downs recently, but according to its lead designer, the troubled development is finally complete, and Sony's factories are busy printing out Blu-ray discs with Gran Turismo 5.

When asked during a recent car show in Las Vegas about GT5, Yamauchi revealed that "The discs are being stamped as we speak," so we might get to see the eagerly anticipated racing simulator before the winter holidays.

Sadly, the Polyphony Digital executive wasn't able to reveal a concrete release date, which might be for the best, considering he can't risk upsetting fans once more.

Gran Turismo 5 is by far of the most anticipated games in recent years, with Polyphony Digital, its developer, releasing tidbits of information every few months, or screenshots so detailed you could have thought that they had real cars.

Sadly, when the game was scheduled to be released this Spring in Japan, it was pushed back to November 2, for a worldwide release.

The company still wasn't able to make that date, and Sony announced a few weeks ago that GT5 was pushed back again, in order to polish up the last few details before it will appear exclusively on the PlayStation 3 this holiday season.

As you can imagine, both Sony and Polyphony Digital were upset over the new delay, and expressed their apologies to the racing game fans.

Now though, it seems that the light at the end of the Gran Turismo 5 tunnel is near, and people will finally be able to play this long awaited game.

Let's just hope that a concrete release date will be announced by Sony soon.
