Gran Turismo 5, Sony's long-awaited racing simulator, has just received a new patch, taking it to version 1.09.

Gran Turismo 5 was launched last year exclusively for the PlayStation 3, after making fans of the racing series wait quite a long time.

Since then, the developer of the title, Polyphony Digital, released quite a lot of patches which aimed at solving some of the issues encountered by players but also introduced new features such as remote racing, which allowed GT5 owners to train their B-spec drivers by using just a web browser.

Now, a new patch has been released, 1.09, which solves a few exploits that allowed racers to take shortcuts in certain tracks or circuits, as well as exploit the lap counter to get more experience.

"We have corrected an issue where it was possible to take shortcuts on certain layouts of the Nürburgring track," revealed the developer on the GT5 website.

According to other reports, it seems that the game's online car dealership has also been refreshed, with more new cars being available for purchase.

The patch weighs in at 49MB, which is quite small considering other, previous patches released for the game, and will be downloaded automatically when you start up the game and are connected to the internet.

Gran Turismo 5 is currently the game to beat for other racing simulators, and rightly so, considering that it was in development for quite a long time, even before the PlayStation 3 was launched onto the market.

A new contender already appeared, in the form of Electronic Arts' Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed, while Microsoft is preparing its own response, in the form of Forza Motorsport 4 from Turn 10 Studios, which, at least according to earlier rumors, promises to incorporate a huge amount of features, including support for the Kinect motion control sensor.
