The recently released Gran Turismo 5 racing simulator will receive a fresh patch this month, as its lead designer, Kazunori Yamauchi, revealed that the game's damage system will be enhanced by the release of an update.

According to the Polyphony Digital boss, the update will add the ability to choose how much damage you want to experience in races.

These might range from purely cosmetic damage, to full on problems that affect the performance, handling or aerodynamics of the car you will be racing.

According to Yamauchi, the damage will be improved in a new update that will arrive in "early December."

As of right now, the damage system can't be controlled, and it gets progressively harder on the virtual cars as you rack up experience and progress through the levels.

Gran Turismo 5, after being delayed several times, was officially released a few weeks ago, and went on to rack up lots of praises for its huge array of cars, over 1,000 vehicles, realistic tracks and realistic effects.

The game already received two patches, one released on the first day of availability, which turned on the online component of the game, and the other this last weekend, which aimed at improving the response times in the menu navigation.

According to a previous statement by Yamauchi, Gran Turismo 5 is still pretty much a work in progress, and the Polyphony Digital team will continue to implement new features and options that couldn't be added to the game before it was released.

The Gran Turismo 5 creator said that players should expect updates "every week, every month", and that he thinks that "it's going to be hard to find an end to that process."

Have you been satisfied with the damage options in Gran Turismo 5 or does Polyphony need to implement more options regarding crashing in the racing simulator?
