Gran Turismo 5, one of the most anticipated racing games of all time, is now being released all around the world, but this doesn't mean that the team at Polyphony Digital, its developer, managed to cram all of the things it wanted onto the final game disc, so a new patch has just been launched, called 1.01.

According to Sony, Gran Turismo 5 patch 1.01 activates and organizes the game's online modes, which weren't available to those that got their hands on the racing game early.

Besides actually allowing you to play online with your friends, patch 1.01 also has a few tweaks in regards to the streaming news panel on the main menu and, due to legal issues, a license agreement when you first go online with the game.

The patch clocks in at 133 MB in size, and will be downloaded as soon as you start your game and if you have your PlayStation 3 connected to the Internet.

This might certainly annoy players that don't have enough space on the console's hard disk because of this large game.

As we reported on Monday, Gran Turismo 5 features an optional install of around 6.4 GB, and also streams more files onto the hard drive, totaling up to 10 GB, meaning lots of players will have to start deleting and uninstalling titles from their hard drive.

Gran Turismo 5 has been a long time coming, and was even delayed a couple of times so that Polyphony Digital, the studio developing the series, could have enough time to polish everything up and deliver one of the most anticipated games of the year.

Set to feature over 1,000 cars, featured in our two part list, as well as over 70 tracks, Gran Turismo 5 is one of the biggest racing games of all time, and will no doubt reach big sales figures, despite its delays and the fact that other titles, including Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, have been launched before it.
