It’s Kanye who’s disrespecting artistry by being a douche

Kanye West was in full-blown Kanye West mode on Sunday night at the Grammys Awards 2015, even though his earlier appearances that night indicated that he would at least try to be on his best behavior. That changed when Beck won Album of the Year, beating industry favorites Beyonce and Sam Smith.

It was Beyonce who should have won, Kanye believed, making a move towards Beck on stage, as if he was about to snatch his award from his hands, to present Beyonce with it. Everyone thought this was a joke - until it became clear that it wasn’t.

Kanye West, Beyonce’s biggest crusader

The moment Beck almost got Kanyed at the Grammys is captured in the GIF below. The video under it is the moment when Kanye explained for E! News backstage that he wasn’t joking: as he saw it, The Recording Academy was mocking artistry and inspiration by giving the Grammy for Album of the Year to Beck and not to Beyonce.

Moreover, Beck should just recognize this and do the right thing, which, as per Kanye’s words, was to give Beyonce the award right away.

“I just know that the Grammyss, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more.  […] Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you're disrespectful to inspiration,” he ranted.

This was the first time in 6 years that Kanye attended the Grammys, having stopped coming because he usually got too mad when he didn’t win, which, he believed, was the clearest sign that he was being discriminated against.

In Kanye’s own mind, his music and the music of whichever artist he happens to fancy is the best thing in the world and should receive all accolades no matter what. So after a series of epic backstage rants like the one below (and some even angrier than this one), Kanye and the Grammys broke up.

He still continued to pull stunts like this one though: for instance, in 2009, at the MTV Video Music Awards, he took Taylor Swift’s award from her hand when she won Video of the Year, telling her that “Imma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the greatest videos of all time!.”

He clearly thinks Beyonce is not getting the kind of recognition from the industry she deserves, and he doesn’t care how rude he is to others (and disrespectful to their work) to say it.

Shirley Manson schools Kanye

But what Kanye West is completely ignorant of is that Beyonce doesn’t need him to fight any of her fights, because she’s got that covered on her own, Shirley Manson of the band Garbage writes on her Facebook.

The only thing that Kanye accomplishes by pulling these stunts is to make himself look like a complete fool: immature and unprofessional, disrespectful of the very things he accuses others of disrespecting.

If Kanye had a bit more sense, he would actually stop to think before opening his mouth on camera and trashing another man or woman’s work, Manson continues. You can see her full Facebook post below: even if you’re a fan of none of these artists’ music, you will probably agree that she makes perfect sense.

Kanye is being immature, unprofessional and disrespectful, and behavior of this kind does him or his music no good.
