This is the first song from “PRISM” and her most personal

Fresh off her colorful, cheery and very energetic performance at the Super Bowl 2015 Halftime, Katy Perry performed again last night at the Grammys 2015. This time though, she was very somber.

The occasion called for it: before she walked up on stage to perform, Katy was introduced by domestic abuse survivor Brooke Axtell, who said a few words about the importance of offering proper support to all victims of such abuse, including emotional.

“If you are in a relationship with someone that does not honor or respect you, I want you to know that you are worthy of love,” she said. This and other quotes from the speech were trending on Twitter at the time of the gala.

In this context, Katy’s performance of “By the Grace of God” acquired a much more touching, deeper meaning as she used her song and her public persona to shine light on the issue of domestic violence.

Katy wore a caped cream-colored dress and stood in front of a giant white panel, on which her “shadow” danced.

“By the Grace of God” is actually the first song Katy wrote for her most recent album, “PRISM,” and also her most personal to date. Those are her exact words, not mine.

Here is the performance in full, enjoy!
