14 DAY TRIAL // Kanye West has been styling reality star Kim Kardashian since before they even went public as a couple, but now that they’re married, he’s practically in charge of her day-to-day and red carpet outfits. So we can blame him for her showing up at the Grammys 2015 in Liberace’s bathrobe.
No offense to Liberace, of course.
Kanye probably thought Kim would look like a Bond villainess in this gold and silver long dress, but the result was entirely different, as it made Kim look boxy and overdressed, and as if everything on her would fall off at the slightest motion.
Unflattering sparkly bathrobe
The gown, which included a very low V-neck and a very high front slit, oversized bejeweled shoulders and a lot of gems on the sleeves, was a Jean Paul Gaultier creation. This is a designer that takes huge fashion risks to the most surprising results, but his creations are rarely meant for a woman with Kim’s body.
At the end of the day, this is Kim’s biggest problem: she continues to dress for a body that she does not have, which translates into unflattering and poorly-fitted outfits. She is very outspoken and very proud of her curves, but she insists on dressing like she were a size 2 model - and we can all agree that this she is not.
For instance, this gown (which looked more like a bathrobe than an actual dress) made her look very boxy because of the cut and the shoulder line. Kim has been squeezing herself in corsets / waist trainers for months and she has an hourglass figure she should show off more often, by favoring creations that would emphasize that.
Instead, she chose to show off her cleavage here. To add insult to injury, this meant applying so much body makeup that she looked like one of those living (bronze) statues that entertain tourists in the streets.
“I’m the luckiest woman alive”
As with every outfit Kim has worn in the past few months, Kanye takes “credit” for this one too, as Kim herself told E! cameras backstage, the Daily Mail informs.
“He saw this online at a couture show and sent me the picture and said, ‘Babe do you like this dress?’ He called the designer, gets it and it’s sitting my dressing room. I’m the luckiest woman alive,” she gushed.
Kanye also praised her for being a beauty of the kind we have never witnessed before, adding that, “Beauty is important. The Kardashains wouldn’t be famous if beauty wasn’t important.” Obviously, Kim is the most beautiful of the lot.
Also obviously, he liked the way the dress looked on Kim because he couldn’t keep his hands to himself on the red carpet.
Though he’s not the kind to even hold hands with her on public outings of this kind, last night, he went in for the kill, giving her a smooch for the cameras, while resting both hands possessively on her famous derriere.
