A change of pace, sound and attitude from last year

Last year, Beyonce and husband Jay Z opened the Grammy Awards with a live performance of “Drunk in Love” that was billed “super racy” at best and “very inappropriate” at worst. Last night, she closed the 2015 edition with a performance that was the exact opposite of that.

As President and CEO of The Recording Academy Neil Portnow promised, Beyonce set out to deliver something “dramatically different than anything [we’]ve seen her do in a long time.” He also said that the performance would be “spectacular” and memorable, and that it would cap off a night of amazing performances.

This is exactly what happened, as the video below will show.

While at the Grammys 2014, Beyonce sang about her love for her husband, this time she got super religious, as a tribute to the film “Selma,” one of the biggest hits of 2014 and a strong Oscar contender this awards season.

She and an all-male choir performed “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” a gospel song that was a favorite of Martin Luther King Jr.

Beyonce was clad all in white and didn’t move from a pedestal set in the center of the stage. The performance was rousing and powerful, and the audience loved every note of it, which is easily verifiable by the loud screaming coming from them and the eager applause.

Unlike with other acts performing live, there were no reaction shots this time.
