Mary Lambert might not be a name that rings a bell with you but her voice might, especially since her song “My Love” is sampled on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ hit “Same Love.” And to think that, just one year ago, Mary was no one in the industry.

The singer, whose full song you will find embedded above, just in case you never got the chance to check it out in full, spoke to Jack Osbourne on the red carpet at the 2014 Grammy Awards, and recalled her start in showbiz.

She probably never imagined she would be at the music industry’s biggest awards gala so soon, because, one year ago, she was working as a bartender. Sharing the stage with talented performers and established stars was probably also a dream.

During the gala, in what was one of the most talked about and emotional moments of the night, Mary shared the stage with Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, Madonna, and Queen Latifah during a performance that also included a mass wedding: Queen Latifah married 33 gay and straight couples.

After the performance, Mary’s song shot up in the charts as airplay picked up considerably.

Talk about a good year!
