He then posted the apology to Instagram, was ridiculed for it

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis cleaned up the 2014 Grammys, including the rap category where the favorite was Kendrick Lamar. When they won Best Rap Album, Macklemore felt so bad that he actually texted an apology to Kendrick.

Then, for some reason, he posted the text online, on his Instagram account, in what many considered a douche and condescending move. However, his fans argue, he probably had the best intentions at heart.

“My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album... I'm honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys,” Macklemore wrote in the caption to the photo.

“But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that's taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it's proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You're the reason we were on that stage tonight,” he added.

As for the text, it said pretty much the same thing, only that it was addressed to Kendrick, who had been nominated for his critically acclaimed album “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.”

“You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It's weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the speech. Then the music started playing during my speech, and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love,” Macklemore wrote to his fellow rapper nominee.

It’s not just Macklemore who thought he shouldn’t have won Best Rap Album because, the instant his name was called out, the Internet reacted with fury.

Nominees also included Jay Z, Kanye West, and Drake, and many fans believed that either of these 3 should have walked home with the Grammy instead of Macklemore and his collaborator.
