The moment when Queen Latifah married 33 gay and straight couples at the 2014 Grammy Awards, during a performance by Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, and Madonna, was deemed one of the most touching highlights of the night. “Growing Pains” actor, director, and vocal Christian Kirk Cameron begs to differ.

In a post on his Facebook, Cameron calls the entire awards gala an “all out assault on traditional family,” but, ironically, he’s only attacking the Grammys because he’s promoting a new movie. In other words, he’s saying something like “the Grammys sucked, buy my movie.”

The Facebook post has been deleted since, but not before screen captures made their way online and instantly went viral.

“How did you like the Grammy’s all out assault on traditional family last night? As a husband and father, I am proud to announce the release of my new family movie, MERCY RULE,” Cameron wrote. He accompanied the post with a photo of himself holding a copy of the movie, standing against a background with the United States flag.

“Last night, the lines were drawn thick and dark. Now more than ever, we must work together to create the world we want for our children. I’m hoping that just as Fireproof restored marriages, MERCY RULE will strengthen families,” the star continues.

The rest of his message is Cameron shilling the movie, making it clearer than ever that he only tackled the Grammys mass wedding because it was a trending topic and because he needed a bigger platform to promote his latest project.

“You told me on Facebook how you wanted to see MERCY RULE and I heard you. […] May God bless you and keep you and I can’t wait for you to tell me what you think,” he adds, completely discarding the Grammy topic.

The Grammy mass wedding, though considered a beautiful moment by most, as well as a step forward in terms of gender equality, was also controversial because it was the first time so many gay weddings were shown on live TV.

This probably explains why, as a preemptive move, CBS cut away from same gender couples kissing and showed mostly traditional couples after Queen Latifah pronounced them all married.
