There's a very fine line between edgy and tacky and, as one can easily imagine, not all stars know how to walk it.
For instance, while Rihanna took a huge risk with her Versace gown, she looked stunning and elegant. Sadly, not the same can be said about the risk-takers included in this article.
Take Fergie, for instance. She usually does well on the red carpet, incorporating her edginess into whatever outfit she chooses, and ends up owning it.
Not the same happened the other night, when she walked the red carpet in a bright orange, lace Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture gown.
It was completely see-through and she chose black lingerie to go with it, including grandma panties.
As GoFugYourself puts it, the Grammys was marred by the recent loss of Whitney Houston: it was not the right time to show underwear. Even if it hadn't, this would still have been a bad look for the singer.
Supermodel Anne V, who was Adam Levine's date (she's his girlfriend), also showed plenty of skin in a manner that was anything but suitable for the red carpet.
In fact, as the aforementioned e-zine puts it, if you buy a dress and have to get a bikini wax in order to wear it, perhaps it's best if you never do.
Granted, Anne V has a spectacular body but, even under this circumstance, she seemed completely underdressed (or undressed, more likely) for the occasion.
Pop star Sasha Gradiva, known as SASHA, had the weirdest accessory of the night: a “sleeve” of machine guns and other firearms, which violently clashed with her pale pink classic ball gown.
The “Terminator” jokes write themselves.
Robyn time-traveled from the '90s (Spice Girls era) and ended up at the Grammys. Her only excuse is that she never cared for these things.
Skylar Grey looked quite uncomfortable in a very short and very tight metallic dress with bright yellow fringes hanging from her shoulders, down to the red carpet.
She probably realized she'd messed up the moment when she saw people's reaction to her outfit.
The same applies to Porcelain Black, who went for a very swimsuit-y look better suited for an appearance poolside in the south of France than for the red carpet of the music industry's biggest night.
