Rapper and the Recording Academy would never dream of insulting Islam or Judaism

Nicki Minaj has come under serious fire from the Catholic League for her performance at the Grammys 2012. The League's president Bill Donahue, for one, believes Nicki made a complete fool of herself and is very likely possessed.

As we also noted the other day, Nicki took to the stage at the Grammys and performed “Roman Holiday,” putting on a religious-themed show that was bound to cause a stir.

Not only did she re-enact an exorcism, but she also included plenty of elements that could not have passed by unobserved. It turns out they didn't.

E! Online reports that the League was paying attention – and it's got plenty to say about Nicki and her wicked ways.

As Donahue puts it in a post on the League's official website, whether Nicki Minaj is really possessed by the devil is not important. The lengths she would go to in order to make headlines is what interests here.

“Nicki Minaj, fresh off looking like a fool with Madonna at the Super Bowl, showed up last night on the red carpet at the Grammys with a guy dressed like the pope. This was just a prelude of what was to come,” Donahue says, as cited by E!.

“Minaj's performance began on stage with a mock confessional skit. This was followed by a taped video depicting a mock exorcism. With stained glass in the background, she appeared on stage again with choir boys and monks dancing,” he adds.

Even more offensive than this was the segment in which the altar boys leaned in to pray in between the legs of female dancers, as well as Nicki's “levitation” at the end.

However, the rapper isn't the only one to blame, Donahue says. The Recording Academy is equally responsible for the offense brought to the Catholic Church.

“None of this was by accident, and all of it was approved by The Recording Academy, which puts on the Grammys. Whether Minaj is possessed is surely an open question, but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of The Recording Academy,” the League's president writes.

Moreover, he concludes, “Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam.”

Neither The Recording Academy nor Nicki has addressed the issue so far. Below is a video of the so-called offensive performance: watch it and see for yourself whether there's any foundation to Donahue's claims.
