Last night at the Grammy Awards 2011, Bruno Mars brought a bit of old-school glamour to the awards ceremony, with a medley of his hits, with some help from Janelle Monae, whom he accompanied on the drums.

The 25-year-old singer, who’s been producing and writing music for anyone from Cee Lo Green to Flo’Rida and Ke$ha, proved that he can do basically anything, from singing to playing the drums – and thus put on one the best performances of the night.

As Entertainment Weekly’s Music Mix puts it, now there’s really no denying that Bruno can do absolutely everything, being one of the most accomplished artists of the young wave.

“He sings! He dances! He writes massive No. 1 hits for himself and seemingly every other artist on the planet! He plays the drums!” EW enthuses.

“At this point, it’s no surprise that Bruno Mars can put on a good show, but his Grammy performance – which also featured B.o.B and Janelle Monae – was a total blast,” the e-zine writes.

Indeed, a blast it was, and EW is not the only one to point that out.

“First the trio attempted a strings-backed take on B.o.B’s ‘Nothin’ on You’ (Mars wrote and sings the hook for the tune), which sounded decent, if a little shaky,” EW notes.

However, it was the next part that truly showed Bruno’s full range.

“Then Mars launched into a revamped, classic-soul take on his No. 1 hit ‘Grenade,’ and as the cameras clicked over to black and white the performance came alive, with Mars showing off his sweet, touch-of-grit voice,” EW says.

After introducing Monae, who ended her number with a bit of crowd-surfing, Bruno retired to the drums – but the camera kept panning on him, showing that he wasn’t just playing: he was really playing the drums.
