The CBS channel has signed a five-year contract with The Recording Academy to keep the Grammy Awards on CBS through 2011. The agreement makes the broadcast partnership between the two companies one of the longest in television history.
The new contract also holds potential for new live music and music-driven shows and a shared commitment to public service and educational programming. CBS has broadcast the Grammy ceremony live since 1973.
"Each February, CBS and The Recording Academy come together to stage one of television's biggest and most entertaining annual events," said Leslie Moonves, co-president and co-COO of Viacom and chairman of CBS.
"But the mutual respect and camaraderie between our two organizations is full-time, all-the-time, creating a great environment to support our respective businesses and serve our respective audiences.
We look forward to working with Neil Portnow [president of The Recording Academy] his outstanding team to deliver future broadcasts that take one of CBS's signature nights to new heights over the next decade."
The 48th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
