The Google I/O 2011 sold out in record time, in under an hour after being made available. There's clearly a great interest in the conference, but if you didn't manage to get your hands on tickets at the time, you still have a chance, Google has 100 to hand out to developers who complete a series of challenges.

"For those of you who were quick to register, we thank you for continuing to support our developer initiatives -- this year's I/O is slated to be one of our best yet," Vic Gundotra, Google VP Engineering, wrote.

"For the rest of our developers, we weren’t kidding when we told you we <3 our developers," he added.

"Starting Wednesday, March 16, we will be launching Last Call for Google I/O: A contest that spans 10 days, 10 developer challenges and 100 chances to win tickets to attend the now-sold-out Google I/O 2011," he announced.

In order to give developers the opportunity to attend Google I/O 2011, while also making sure that the talented ones get in, Google will be holding 10 competitions, each focusing on one of Google's products, things like Android, Chrome, YouTube and so on.

The challenges will start next week, with one each day. Developers will be able to register and, providing they pass an initial test, they can then qualify for the challenge. They will then have about 20 hours to complete it. 10 developers will win tickets in each challenge.

The contest is only open to developers in the US, but it's one of the few if not the only opportunities to get in this year's Google I/O conference. The winners will be announced early next month. Of course, the keynotes for both days of the conferences will be streamed online, as they were in previous years.
