Gparted, a partitioning utility that can be used for creating, reorganizing, and deleting disk partitions with the help of tools that allow the management of filesystems, is now at version 0.17.0.

As you well know, this distribution uses libparted from the parted project to detect and manipulate partition tables. Various other file system tools allow users to manage file systems not included in libparted.

“This release of Gparted adds the ability to perform online resizing for systems that support this capability. Also included are bug fixes and language translation updates,” reads the official announcement.

One of the most important changes that need the user's attention is the fact that the dependencies have changed, at least for some of the features.

“Optionally enable the capability to perform online resizes by using configure flag --enable-online-resize if and only if you have an ‘online-resize’ patched version of libparted and Linux kernel >= 3.6,” is also stated in the announcement.

Highlights of Gparted Live 0.17.0:

• Support has been added for online resize (requires patched version of libparted, kernel >= 3.6, and a config flag); • The Linux Swap Suspend and Software RAID partitions are now recognized; • The busy detection for Linux Software RAID and extended partitions has been fixed; • The systemctl runtime mask has been fixed in order to prevent automounting partitions; • The usage of swap space is now reported properly; • The resize2fs progress bar is now shown; • The deprecated method free_colors() is no longer used; • The partition information dialog warnings are now selectable; • The default file system has been changed to Ext4 fall back to Ext3/2. • An AppData file has been added
