It's official, Facebook has acquired Gowalla, the location based service turned travel guide. Rumors popped up over the weekend and, while neither company confirmed it, they didn't deny it either.
"We were blown away by Facebook’s new developments [at this year's f8]... it became clear that the way for our team to have the biggest impact was to work together," co-founder Josh Williams wrote.
"So we’re excited to announce that we’ll be making the journey to California to join Facebook," he
announced.
The Gowalla service will be shut down at the end of January next year. All of the user data will be deleted, so if you want to get stuff out, you have a couple of months to do it.
The Gowalla team will work on Facebook features from now on, but Gowalla user data is not part of the deal.
