This June 22, conservationist Damian Aspinall of the Aspinall Foundation and other greenheads working with him will return a family of gorillas to their home in West Africa.

The gorilla family about to reunited with their native lands is made up of a male named Djala, his fours “wives” and their four offspring.

According to Daily Mail, the apes will travel to Africa inside crates that have been specially designed to suit their needs. They will be released on an island in the Batéké Plateau National Park in Gabon.

Up until now, the gorillas have been living in Kent, at the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park near Ashford.

The gorillas are expected to reach their destination by Monday.

Commenting on his decision to return this gorilla family to the wild, Damian Aspinal said that, “It isn’t hard to say goodbye.”

“In fact, it’s very, very hard to keep them. It’s much easier in my heart and soul to free them. Otherwise, I just feel like a jailer for prisoners without parole,” he added.
